Anais Nin's Counter Culture Ideas Are Status Quo Today; Then As In Now Society Counter Culture Brought About Change

Anais Nin is considered one of the great writers of the 20th century. Her creative and courageous writing encouraged searching within for purpose and seeking self-fulfillment through the realization of self.

This was a counterculture idea in her day. The majority of people held a self-sacrifice belief set. They believed family, company, country, and God should come before the needs and desires of self.

Anais Nin and her contemporaries revolutionized the way members of #society thought about themselves as individuals. No longer did they see themselves as destined to go along with what's best for others. They believed instead that self-fulfillment matters above all else.

By the end of the 1970s, her counter-culture value set had become the status quo.

Today, society is struggling to break through to yet another change in #values. Self-fulfillment still matters, but not at the unfair expense of others. This, I believe, is at the heart of every political and social debate right now.
